Pro-Linguist: Battle Of Linguistic Wizards

INSTRUCTIONS

[Please enter into the link at least before 5 minutes. Questions will be provided a minute before the time.]

*RULES FOR ATTENDING PRELIMINARY ROUND OF SERIES BASED QUIZ, CARTOON BASED QUIZ, SPELL THE WORD AND GRAMMAR NAZI :

1. You have to enter into the link which will be provided to your registered cellphone number the previous day of the preliminary exam. You’ll get a passcode and the link of the exam form on our website 2 minutes prior to the exam time.

2. To enter into the exam, you need to give your name, email, contact number, class, registration code (sent to you via email). After completing the form, you will be able to enter into the exam.

3. You have to enter into the link within 10 minutes of the time which will be assigned for your group. Within 10 minutes, the link will be closed and you won’t be able to participate.

4. The duration will be notified at the beginning of each question paper.

5. At the bottom of the paper, you have to tap on the clock after starting the exam. This will notify you of the remaining time.

6. Our exam platform can detect any sort of cheating or plagiarism or whatever else you are doing while answering the questions. If anyone tries to cheat, he/she will be marked automatically disqualified.

7. You must have a strong and good internet connection throughout the time of participation. Authority won’t be responsible if you face problems regarding internet connection. Have a mobile data connection in case you have a problem.

8. For the selection segments, (if there’s an option) correct spelling will be given top priority. If you spell the answer incorrectly, you won’t get marks for that.

9. If there is any tie in marks, there will be a tie-breaking round. We will contact the listed participants and let them know about further procedures.

Event Description

[N. B: This is not ‘ English Olympiad, Season 3’, the traditional one. This is a special event created for the students to pass their leisure time effectively.]

During this pandemic, we know everyone is going through a lot & the world is currently in a standstill but there is nothing that could stop the youth from practicing and improving their skill sets. With that in mind, the International English Language Club presentsPro-linguist: Battle of the Linguistic Wizards”. This is an online-based mega event which will allow students of different classes to hone their skills by competing from the comfort of their home.

 

The whole event has been distinguished into two parts. SUBMISSION and LIVE.

  • Tongue Twisters:

A tongue-twister is a phrase that is designed to be difficult to articulate properly for similar words coming accordingly and can be used as a type of speaking (or sung) word game. The participants will be given a phrase and they have to pronounce it as fluent as possible.

Participants of all groups can take part in this segment. Preliminary Round for this event will be video-based submission. Keep an eye on the event page for updates.

  • Art on an Article:

(Word/Doc File-based Submission)

An article will be provided participants will come up with the Art (Photography/Digital Art/Painting/Sketch) they have imagined while reading the article.  This is to judge the creativity of a participant who’s participating in this segment. The segment can be completed in any of these three ways:

  1. Graphical Illustration: The topic that will be given has to be submitted as a JPG File. A participant can use Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator.
  2. Photography: The topic that will be given has to be submitted as JPG. The minimum size is 1MB.
  3. Painting: The topic that will be given has to be submitted by clicking a picture of the painting. The picture has to have the signature of the artist below.

Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination. In this segment, the participant will choose one of his/her own artwork (Drawing/Digital/Non-digital/Photography) and express the story or the message behind that artwork in words.

In this segment, the participants will use their imagination and creativity to complete a story. A premise will be given and the participants will continue to build a story according to their imagination and creativity.

Poetry is a type of literature, based on the interplay of words and rhythm. It often employs rhyme and meter (a set of rules governing the number and arrangement of syllables in each line). In poetry, words are strung together to form sounds, images, and ideas that might be too complex or abstract to describe directly. In this segment, the participant will submit a poem based on any topic of their choosing. The poem has to be original.

This is a submission-based segment where the participant will act like the favorite cartoon character and submit the video via email. This is a video-based submission segment.

Participants from KG to Class 8 are eligible to take part in this segment. The name of the Cartoons are not selected for these

In this segment, the participants will have the opportunity to showcase their talent in poem recitation. This is a video-based submission event.

  • Turn the Coat:

(Video-based Submission)

This is an impromptu speech where the speaker will have to talk in favor of a subject as well as against it. The participant will have to speak 2 minutes for the topic and 2 minutes against it. It will take 4 minutes of delivery time in total.

This segment has three rounds- Preliminary, Semi-Final, Final. The preliminary round will be submission-based. The participant will be given a motion for the preliminary round. They have to make a video for that motion and send it to us via email. Selected participants will move on in the next round and perform in our Facebook Live session. Participants qualifying for the final will perform their speech in our Facebook Live session.

  4. Class 9-Class 12: Government-controlled online censorship is an act of oppression

  • PPDT (Picture Perception and Description Test):

(Video-based Submission)

The full form of PPDT is Picture Perception and Description Test. In this test, a hazy picture will be given to the participants to give their own perceptions on it. Every participant can have their own way of describing the hazy picture and give logic on it. At the final rounds, there will be a group discussion occurring on a particular picture where the participants will have their own opinions on that picture to prove that their opinion is the best one.

  • Spell the Word:

This is a Live Based event where preliminary selection will take place & after selection, the participant will join the server live in order to participate. In this segment, a participant will have to spell out a word correctly in order to get points. There will be clues of Pronunciation, Meaning & a Use of the word.

Grammar Nazi:

Grammar is the system of a language. People sometimes describe grammar as the “rules” of a language; but in fact, no language has rules. If we use the word “rules”, we suggest that somebody created the rules first and then spoke the language, like a new game. This is a grammar-based live segment.
